Critical Illness Insurance

Critical Illness Insurance

Overview

Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a heart attack or stroke1 and someone is diagnosed with cancer every 3 minutes.2 If it happens to you, shouldn’t your primary focus be on getting well, and not worrying about how to pay for your treatment and care?

Critical Illness Insurance can help you by paying a lump sum cash benefit to help cover your out-of-pocket medical costs, including deductibles, copays, and cost-shares or pay daily living expenses such as grocery bills, mortgage payments, transportation costs, etc.

  • Pays a lump sum cash benefit of $30,000
  • Your benefit is paid directly to you, and is in addition to your medical insurance. Additional benefits include: Team members will be offered $30,000 Guaranteed Issue Coverage. Their Spouse/Domestic Partner will be offered 50% and child(ren) will be offered 50% of team member benefit amount.

Receive 25% of the initial benefit amount for 22 conditions:

Addison’s disease (adrenal hypofunction); amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease); cerebrospinal meningitis (bacterial); cerebral palsy; cystic fibrosis; diphtheria; encephalitis; Huntington’s disease (Huntington’s chorea); Legionnaire’s disease; malaria; multiple sclerosis (definitive diagnosis); muscular dystrophy; myasthenia gravis; necrotizing fasciitis; osteomyelitis; poliomyelitis; rabies; sickle cell anemia (excluding sickle cell trait); systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE); systemic sclerosis (scleroderma); tetanus; and tuberculosis.

A Covered Person may only receive one benefit payment for a Listed Condition in his/her lifetime.

  • You pay an affordable team member discounted group rate. For rates, click on the Rate Chart in the Learn More section.
  • Provided by an insurance carrier you can trust: MetLife
  • You’re guaranteed acceptance provided you enroll during the Enrollment Period and are actively at work.3
  • Portable–you can keep your coverage if you leave your employer.4 Will be made available on a direct bill basis for terminated and retired team members at active group rates.
Enrollment

Add critical illness insurance to help offset expenses that may not be covered under your employer's existing medical insurance and disability plans.

IMPORTANT: If there is a change in your policy and you receive a refund from the carrier, it will not change your year-to-date voluntary deduction amount on your paycheck. While the overall cost of the benefit changed (resulting in a refund), the actual deduction amount remains the same.

ENROLL NOW will direct team members to the V-net page where the Virginia Mason username (birth month and employee id number) and password will be entered.

You, your spouse and eligible children qualify for this coverage.7 You and your eligible family members just need to enroll during your employer's enrollment period and be actively at work for your coverage to be effective.
